According to ancient astrological lore, life is measured in 3 distinct chapters. The first 30 year chapter is essentially childhood – we are learning about the world and our place in it. This chapter is a defining one as the way we learn to see the world, is the world we see. As the famous proverb goes: ‘we do not see the world as it is, we see it as we are’. At our first Saturn return (28-32 years old), we are called upon to make choices that lay the foundation for chapter 2. These choices should be made based on the lessons we have learned so far. The better the choices at this time (of partner, career, friends, habits, financial etc) the better the foundation we lay.

The second chapter begins around 32 and is about consolidating our choices and putting our energy out in the world in a directed way. This is a time of doing, and becoming. There are a few critical re-evaluation points during this chapter (early 40’s and again in early 50’s) in case we need to course correct along the way.

Chapter 3 begins around 60 years old and is a time of choosing once again. This time the choice is around what kind of life we’d like to create for ourselves in our latter years. By this time, children are fully independent and perhaps for the first time since our childhood we get to make choices that are purely our own. As with each of these chapters, there will be endings and beginnings. Our task is to be more conscious of this while it’s happening, so that we participate fully in creating the future we’d like to see.

The universe is especially responsive to us at these times so the choices we make should be based on our highest wisdom to ensure the best outcomes. This can be easier said than done, especially when it requires a letting go of something or someone that no longer serves our highest good. The ‘ruler’ of these chapters is Saturn and he always provides what we deserve (nothing more, nothing less), so that we can fully experience the power and impact of our own free will
